Spanx Air Essentials Jumpsuit ($148)
It feels like years that I’ve been watching bloggers do try-on mirror hauls with Spanx’s “buttery soft” athleisure. They always made it look so good, but something inside told me, “Spanx isn’t an athleisure company. There is no way it’s as good as it looks.” And so I never took the bait. When our red eye flight to London was booked, I knew I needed something that could act like pajamas without looking like pajamas and my search brought me to the Spanx Air Essentials Jumpsuit.
The moment I felt the fabric out of the box I was shocked. I couldn’t believe a fabric could be so thick, yet cool to the touch, and stretchy, but not oversized. Since it’s a jumpsuit, you have to step into the legs through the neck hole. I was so nervous the neck would become stretched out within 2 wears, but I’m happy to report that the 4-way stretch fabric is literal magic and the top looks and feels the same as it did the day I got it. Taking it on and off is a breeze, which says a lot because jumpsuits are notoriously annoying to pee in (I put the pants in my socks when I used the bathroom.).
At the airport waiting in line to board, the woman in front of me told me she had seen me walk to the gate and told her husband, “Now I have to get the black!” She owned the blue and agreed that it was the best travel outfit ever.
To the gate and off the plane I paired it with my Wyeth Santa Ynez Barn Jacket (obviously, it’s the only jacket I talk about 😂) and on the plane I swapped in my Lululemon Scuba Zip Up Hoodie to get extra cozy while trying to sleep.
For sizing they recommend taking your shirt size as the pants are naturally roomy. I took a M and it was perfect. I’m 5’5” with long legs and short torso and the pants just barely skimmed the floor with shoes on.
This jumpsuit and the Air Essentials fabric in general is worth the hype and really is “buttery soft.” My only complaint would be that the fabric will start to look worn where there is constant friction, so for the jumpsuit that is across the butt. The photo makes it look more exaggerated than it is in real life, but in terms of care I would recommend washing inside out and air dry.
