Owala FreeSip Insulated Stainless Steel Water Bottle 24oz ($27.99)
I dream of the day I don’t see another water bottle on the internet. I was happy with my Stanley. I was happy before it. But like everything in this world, nothing is perfect. The Stanley leaked because of course it would with an exposed straw and the shape, while convenient for the car, was top heavy.
I saw the Owala FreeSip on @mallykgoldman’s IG. The closed top and handle made my heart skip a beat. I purchased the 40oz to compare to the Stanley, but it and the 32oz couldn’t fit in my car cup holder, an immediate no. For reference I drive a BMW X7 and only the 24oz fits. I have seen on @brightonbutler’s IG that the 40oz fits in her Mercedes so this is NOT the Brandy Melville of cups like the Stanley and will require some “research” on your own to find your fit. Quite a handful of you told me to turn the 40oz upside down and while that did work, I couldn’t actually believe so many of you are jumping through so many hoops to drink water in the car lol.
Pros first! I love the closed top and am obsessed with the two drinking options: straw or full opening. I use the straw the most, but appreciate that I have options and can empty/fill the bottle without taking the top off. The biggest pro for me is the handle though. Sure the handle of the Stanley is nice, but it’s bulky and when full it’s so heavy to hold when I’m carrying multiple things in my hands. I love that the Owala handle can slip on my pinky with very little effort or thought.
Now the cons. I have yet to spill (yay), but somehow when I fill the bottle, water leaks out the top and I have yet to understand how that’s possible because the top never touches water. It’s not something that would stop me from using the bottle, but it does annoy me. I wish I could have a size larger than 24oz. I use this predominately at the gym and I refill a least twice during my workout.
Cleaning hasn’t been an issue like many say it is. I only put water in it (no powder mixes) so I think that decreases the chances of build up. I will update if there is ever an issue down the road. Overall, I love Owala and have not used my Stanley since.
