Loving Tan Deluxe Bronzing Mousse in Medium ($34.95)
The countdown for summer has begun and self-tanner season has arrived. Does anyone else feel like self tanners have come a long way in the last 15 years but also feel like they haven’t at all? 😂 Why have we still not figured out how to cover the smell?! But I digress…
Loving Tan is the most popular tanner on the internet and their Platinum Mousse is even an Allure Best of Beauty winner. I decided to go with their classic Deluxe Mousse due to its popularity.
Before application I exfoliated and shaved in the shower and then applied lotion on my elbows, wrists, hands, and ankles. The first two photos are before and after application (lol at me being too lazy to move my ipad from the shot). After I applied and it dried the smell was very apparent, but that’s expected. I liked that it didn’t dry down too sticky and I could go to bed fairly soon after. To note: I did wash my hands and applied lotion immediately after they dried to make sure I didn’t have the dreaded orange hands.
The following morning I woke up and I legitimately looked like a different race and was starting to get very nervous. Thankfully in the shower SO much came off. I did not use soap on any of my body except the important parts to ensure maximum color retention. I was relieved that I looked normal again but also a little sad because I wasn’t as tan as I would have liked. I also didn’t love how orange my ankles still were despite putting lotion on. The smell was still quite strong even after lotion and perfume. The mild color only lasted through 2 showers, which was quite frustrating since I did this before a wedding. The frustration was exacerbated by the lingering smell despite 80% of the color being gone. I also found that I felt quite itchy the days following. I’m still not 100% sure if it was the tanner itself, but either way it didn’t leave a good impression.
Top cons of the product were: smell, super dark developement but not enough color retention, and left ankles orange despite prepping areas correctly. These are all the things we are NOT looking for in a self-tanner so I have no choice but to say this is a pass for me 🥲
