Living Proof Full Texturizing Foam ($18-32)
Last week I shared the new love of my life, the Dyson Airstrait. The Airstrait makes my hair so smooth that waves and curls I add in after with a wand don't last as long as they did when I would use a blowdryer. This might sound like a con for the Airstrait, but I don't see it as one because frizz is always my number one battle with my hair. With my hair's natural texture smoothed out I need to add a little texture back in with product to get longevity again. At Sephora I picked up Living Proof's Texturizing Foam to try out.
I used this foam two different ways, as suggested by Living Proof. The first attempt was with air drying and WOAH. They are not kidding when they claim this product gives texture. I have very curly hair so with his foam my curls were on another level, but not in a good way. The foam felt lightweight, but when dried it looked and felt like I had used 3 cans of hairspray on my hair. It also made my wash day a lot harder. Detangling before my shower was so painful and I inevitably pulled out way more hair than I wish I had. If you are looking to try this on air dry hair I only recommend this for someone with super silky and pin-straight hair. If you have any wave or natural texture this product will be too much.
The second time I used the foam was before blowdrying. I used one pump per section of hair (I blowout my hair in 3 sections: bottom, middle, top) and I made sure to use it wet hair; on damp or partially dry hair I found that it gets too sticky. Pre-blowdrying was much better than air drying, but I still didn't love how much texture it added. Pulling my hair through the round brush felt more difficult (and not in a good way) and it weighed down my hair at the root. After styling I ran my brush through my hair many times to try and brush out the product -- not a good sign. My recommendation stands to only those who have super silk and straight hair. The kind of person who complains that their curls fall after a few hours even with the use of hairspray.
To get the texture I need to hold curls, I'll stick with a dry texturing spray pre-curling like Kristin Ess' Dry Texturizing Spray.
