Beautycounter Glow First Priming Serum ($65)
If you’ve been following for a while you might remember me saying that I’m not a foundation girl. I hate the feeling of anything on my skin or being able to see the makeup sitting on top. Because of this personal preference, I actually love primers. My favorite of all time was the Becca Backlight Priming Filter which has very sadly been discontinued after Becca closed its doors last year. I love that primers are used to prep the skin for makeup, so they usually hydrate, smooth, and add luminosity with light reflecting properties. All things I want my skin to look like!
When I saw the photos of BC’s new primer I knew I had to try it. While touting itself as a serum with skincare first ingredients, it also claimed to add loads of hydration and luminosity from responsibly sourced mica to aid in long lasting makeup.
Unfortunately, this primer was a huge let down for me. While it did add hydration (see hand in last photo), I didn’t notice a subtle shimmer from the mica like promised. Applied to the skin it seemed more like spreading thick water (lol I know that’s not a thing) onto my face. Of course I did try it out with foundation and while it didn’t make it bad it didn’t really add anything to it either. For $65 I expected more.
At the end of the day, I think BC is trying to make this more of a skincare product that you use as makeup — hence the high price tag, but I prefer my skincare products to be skincare and my makeup products to be makeup.
I’ll force myself to use this everyday so that I don’t waste $65, but I won’t be repurchasing and wouldn’t recommend.
